Psychiatric Consultation and Medication Management

A psychiatrist is a physician with specialized training in mental health conditions.  They are experts in making mental health diagnosis and and evidence based treatment plans.  They provide recommendations based on the medical literature and evidence regarding the use of  medications, therapy, neuromodulation, and life style modifications.  As physicians they also consider the extent medical issues and substance use may contribute to various conditions.  They provide diagnostic assessment, medication management, and psychotherapy.  Interactions are always confidential and collaborative.  Follow-up appointments vary in frequency, from 1 to 6 months, and help to maintain progress and health across time.

A psychiatric nurse practioner is master level trained nurse that has specialized training in mental health diagnosis and treatment similar to psychiatrist.  As a medical trained provider they also develop individualized treatment recommendations that consider medical condtions when recommending treatments that include medications, psychotherapy, laboratory and genetic testing, psychological testing and other evidence based interventions.
